An HD TV Antenna Proves That Old Dogs Can Still Learn A New Trick Or Two

And you thought the age of TV antennas are over.
Guess again. In this day and age of high definition (HD) television, TV antennas still serve an important purpose. Their functions may have been set aside with the advent of satellite and cable services which, at first glance, are capable of delivering better receptions given their seemingly more stable structure.
There are a couple of reasons for this. First, because not all cable or satellite services can deliver all the HD channels. Second, because even if these cable or satellite services can deliver the aforementioned HD channels, their formats can be quite compressed and your HD-ready television won't be able to display the broadcasts the way they should be displayed.
An HD TV antenna is often necessary in most areas of the country. It would allow you to receive the HD channels even without the benefit of cable or satellite subscription. Furthermore, since an HD TV antenna receives digital receptions, it's a matter of receiving the broadcasts or not receiving the broadcasts. There are no such things as forced receptions. You won't have to contend with grainy images anymore, as was the case with analog antennas from years ago. Either you receive the broadcasts the way they should be received, or you don't receive them at all.
An HD TV antenna comes in two kinds: indoor and outdoor. The philosophy applied to analog antennas can also be applied here. An outdoor antenna for HD reception is far more advisable, since there is a better chance of receiving the digital broadcasts. But if there are concerns about space or the weather, an indoor antenna can suffice, at least in certain localities.
Want to know which kind of HD TV antenna you should invest on? The Consumer Electronics Association has put up an online tool to help you determine the antenna type best suited for you, based on your location as well as the structure of the building where you wish to enjoy your HD television. Visit the website at www.antennaweb.org and simply fill out the empty fields with the corresponding answers.
There is still so much life for this "old" technology in the current market of high end products and services. With a little tweaking, the often maligned TV antenna has transformed itself into a venerable tool that aims to gratify your viewing enjoyment, a proof perhaps, that old dogs can most certainly learn some new tricks... with the infusion of novel applications, of course.
